Peer Evaluation

I chose to evaluate John Shokpeka's video game.

Briefly describe the game, including its objectives:
The game is about trying to find the escape pod to the level. But its very confusing because he makes it think that you have to find crystals because there are crystals throughout the level.

List two strengths of the game:
-He added good detail to the game.
-He added a lot of enemies to the game.

List one weakness of the game:
-The game was a bit short and too easy. On my second playthrough I beat the game in 30 seconds.
-The enemies were not difficult enough to defeat. They are also really easy to run past.

Answer the three questions provided by the game’s designer:

Was the game easy or hard?
Easy. The game was easy because the enemies are not too difficult to defeat or run away from. Once you get the jetpack, you pretty much just fly up to the escape pod and the game is over.

Was the game interesting?
It was pretty fun because I thought that I had to collect crystals than go to the escape pod.

Were there any errors?
There was one part where it was pretty hard to get back up if you fell into a hole. This is the part where there is the fire troll.

Self Evaluation

Describe your game (including a title).
Pits Of Doom is a platform styled game. In the game there are many pits of doom. You have to get a few keys too to unlock a few locked doors. Ultimately, your goal is to find the escape pod to leave.

What is the objective of the game?
The objective of the game is to survive through the level and find a way to the escape pod.

Discuss two strengths and one weakness of your game.
Strengths
-I added quite a bit of details to my game
-I made my game challenging enough because you actually have to look around the level to make it a lot easier.
Weakness
-I should have made my game a bit longer.

What improvements could be made?
I can improve my game by making it a little longer and having more platforms and stuff on ground level.

What difficulties did you encounter while creating your game?
I made my game underground so that means I used a lot of backwall which made my game a really large file. This caused a great deal of lag when I was building my level.

What did you have to modify or change from the original design?
My original design was to make the game mostly on the main ground but then the game would be too one dimensional.

Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your performance during this assignment.
Strengths
-Used time wisely.
-Completed my game.
-Made my game pretty challenging
Weakness
-Game file might be too big (lags when I try to add more stuff)
-Game could be longer

What did you do well at?
I think I did well at making and designing the game level. I also think I did well at using my class time wisely.

What could you have done better at?
I think I could have made my game a little longer and I could have added a few more enemies and hazards.

Plan

What will you do first? Why?
I will first design the game level. I will design the game level first because it will be easier to put weapons, power-ups, and enemies after I have made the game level.

How will you insure that you complete the project on time?
Focus on the task at hand and not fool around.

Who will test beta versions of your game?
People in our class (Collin, Adnan, Tanvir, John, Isaac)

Will you incorporate other people’s suggestions into your game’s design?
Depending on the type of idea and if it coincides well with my game idea.

How will you decide if you have created a good game or not?
I will ask others for their opinion on the game and see my game rating.

Design

What type of game are you going to produce?
I am planning on making a platform style game.

What will it look like?
The game will look like a maze with different sets of enemies, weapons, and obstacles.

How will the characters be controlled?
My character will move around with the arrow keys. The up key will be to jump and the down key will be to crouch. The space bar will be used to attack. The R key will be used to see the radar of the map. The C key will be used for the jetpack. Z will be used for next weapon and X will be used for next tool.

What will be the objective of the game?
The objective of my game is to get to the escape pod.

How are you going to test its functionality?
I am going to test out my game by letting others test the game out and accept their opinions.

How will it be evaluated?
Through testing the game.

How long will you need to create it? Give a timeline for its completion.
I need at least 8 classes to complete the game.
